Tow bar/hitch question

Doesn't answer why we don't use the receiver and removable hitch system that is universal over there though. I'm tempted to order a receiver kit from the States and get a 50mm ball for it. Another great advantage of the American system is that you can have a longer section before the ball, making it easier to open the rear door if the winch post on the boat trailer gets a bit close. I'm intrigued as to why this superior system hasn't been adopted here. The Yanks certainly do a lot of towing.

I got a similar style to the american thing on my discovery, its a useful bit of kit as if you do offroading you can just remove the towbar and put a recovery eye in and also it does not act as a plough. Also good for changing over hitches as i have some nato hitch trailers so just a thing of removing the standard towball and putting in the nato hitch coupler.
