12 Gauge Fiber Reloading Data..........Please!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just started reloading 12 gauge shells for rough shooting and PSG.

I am on the lookout for loading data for Chedite cases 2 3/4" (Paralell Tube) in 3/4, 7/8, 1 & 1 1/8oz lead shot weights all with fiber wads, I have a few recepies but not many I bought the Lynman manual and it only lists a couple of loads in fiber for buckshot none in birdshot.

I have been told and have done some resurch online about substituting the plastic wad with nitro card and fiber wad but there seems to be several conflicting opinions on this in respect of whether or not it raises the pressure or lowers it.

Your idears on this and hopefully some data would be great.

Cheers Les

Deershooter, thats seems to be what the consensus of opinion is on the side of "its OK to substitute fiber instead of plastic" argument that I have come accross in my resurch, so I am thinking I may take that road as there are some (what look like) good recipies out there using plastic wads.

Bob, for PSG I use Kent/Gamebore 1oz 7 1/2 fiber at the moment but some of the lads use game loads in 4's, 5's & 6's up to 1 1/8oz so for that it wouldnt realy mater, if 7/8oz or 3/4oz would work well on steel plates then I'll probably drop down to those shot weights .

For Rabbits and Corvids I would proberbably be looking at 1oz, 1 1/8oz or even a 36g load in 5's or 6's.

As for powder and primer choice I dont know at the moment as I am trying to collate as much data as posible befor I invest in those as I dont want to be lumbered with a load of primers and powder I cant use in the loads I want to produce.

Thankyou both for your answers so far.
