Question about led's

Reading about some guy out shooting on a cold night and his toch was playing up.

He noticed that once it "warmed up" in his pocket it started working again. So in very cold weather is it the LED that plays up or the 18650 batteries ?

Also, can an LED break if torch is dropped, like a filament bulb or are they bombproof ?

The issue will be the battery. If you warm them you will get some more power from them. I remember as a child if the TV remote batteries not working my father would remove them and rub them between his hands for 30, and they almost always started to work.

LEDs are tough, but attached to a small control circuit board. If dropped and subjected to enough force they could break, but nowhere as easily as filament bulbs.
