Caddyman
Hi, As per title, anyone any experience of Heatmor outdoor furnaces? They are basically a stand alone, wood-burning boiler which you have in the garden and link into the house heating/hot water supply. http://www.heatmor.com/products.php I went to the Sack Store in Boston at the weekend to have a look, they are using one to heat the entire place. Looks like a good alternative to horribly expensive OIL but of course requires daily loading to keep going etc. Would be glad to hear from anyone who has one. Thanks

mr_magicfingers
Take heat losses through the underground piping with a pinch of salt. Chap who runs a woodchip/pellet supply company installed one to put his money where his mouth was and has been blogging the results. short answer is that you lose a shedload of heat no matter how well insulated your underground pipes are. efficiencies go from 90% of the boiler to 70% of the overtall systems. I'm considering a system for both our house and the campsite we're setting up and am now looking at two smaller systems rather than one larger one with piping. http://www.forever-fuels.com/content/district-heating-efficiency-whats-your-view follow the link to his blog posts. well worth the read.
