Essex FAC Approved Land

Hello People,

I am just about to send off for my SGC and I would like to combine this with a FAC.

Here's the BIG problem - I have nowhere to shot a rifle! All my shoots are on/next to a main road.

Can somebody offer some land, or maybe pass on a name/phone number?

I could help with fox control, happily plink rabbits, consider deers..... But also open to other suggestions. I am looking at local gun clubs for target practice but it is in my blood to hunt.

I am in Basildon, Essex and willing to drive some distance.

I am 24 years old, married, 2 children, responsible and trustworthy.

Please help me advance my hobby. Thank you

FAC air will get passed at most places - even alongside a main road, and thats a good starting point. If there are backstops in those fields you may also get them cleared 'with warnings' for rimmie if you come across as a knowledgeable shooter.

Good idea !!

I did not think of a FAC air rifle, I was too busy thinking BIG rifles.

Another person has just suggested using a shotgun for short range fox control. If this is OK to do what size/type of cartridges do I use for that?

Please keep the ideas coming lads, the more i can put down on my FAC, The less I have to pay later to amend it again.

I will put down a FAC air rifle - For rabbits

I will try for a 22 rim fire - For rabbits long range

It would be great if I could now get help with a 223 for Fox & vermin.

I have had a quick read of a 2 day training (in the field) for fox and other shooting. But this is £200 and quite a drive. I was thinking that if I had it in writing of some kind of training/experience of using these types of rifles, that would help my application.

With this in mind would anybody offer a 1 to 1 tuition with either rim fire or a larger rifle? I don't mean a 2 day course, just enough to say I have and can shot that calibre.

Does anybody agree with what I am trying to do here? Or would you say I am trying to apply for too much on my first application?

What are the chances that I could get these FAC air and rim fire on a "open/any location".

It would be unwise for anyone to put in writing that you have used their gun, most of us know its a good thing but there is a grey area about its legality that should not be risked in writing.

Wanted - someone clever enough to get my avatar working as a gif... it became a jpg when i uploaded it

Go for what you feel YOU could firmly justify as safe to use, bearing in mind the lay of the land, proximity of neighbours, footpaths, roads, backstops, livestock, stone hedging etc. Flat land with fencing and hawthorne for example round it will be considered as open land unable to stop a bullet.

Your FEO will decide if your feelings are sensible or on planet la la - if it's the latter expect a hard time from him. You will only be allowed to acquire what your 'best' piece of land warrants.

Daffodil as a diet is more feasible than an 'open certificate to a novice shooter in most counties. Bear in mind that they will consider you as a novice in terms of shooting experience and will guide you as to what land they feel justifies your gun for the first few years. That will be a closed certificate. If you are lucky your FEO will be a shooter himself and pass on some genuine experience.

In the fullness of time you alone get to make the decision about it's calibre and risk.
