Lamping

I always think using lamps is a poor quality way of shooting, to me they should have the skill and patience to shoot without lamps or give it a miss, defiantly not a sport to boost about if the shooter can see the target but the target has no chance to see them.

Just like going wildfowling with a loaf of bread and then shooting them when they feed on it at your local duck pond

When did Lamping actually start in the UK, and how did they manage before

Dunno about rabbits but if you're out after foxes, they already know there's something there. Putting the lamp on just helps them pinpoint it. Then it becomes a battle of wills and that's the main attraction I think. You're trying to persuade them to come closer and they're trying to come closer without putting themselves at risk. Unless they're released in which case they'd hold the lamp while you shoot them. I'd suggest there's a lot of skill in that.

I find the lamping more satisfying than taking the shot. Anyone can look down a scope and pull a trigger bit not everyone can drive over rough ground, watching where they're going, operating the lamp, watching the lit area, finding the quarry and very importantly KEEPING IT THERE. to be shot. I'd also suggest there's a lot of skill in that.

.Can I ask you a question? What's the difference between lamping rabbits and decoying pigeons? You've not mentioned decoying as being unfair.

Certainly happened as soon as battery operated torches came available. In the 70s and 8o's we used spotlights for rally cars blaked out sections of the beam to narrow it or fitted cowls, home made handles and a canvass rucksack containing a motor bike battery ( they burn a few coats and me mums lino in the kitchen  ).

Haha, that brings back memories, the contraptions I made to try and get a decent lamping rig that worked.

Eventually I gave up about 12yrs ago and bought two Clulites. Distant memories now as someone pinched them.

And I used to wear Insignia, I'm too young for Brut and Old Spice.

Paco Rabanne was only worn by soft southern types that drank shandy
