sounds like a bargain to me. If It's been looked after and its not a battered mess.

I would get it serviced if you buy it. send it to air arms and get new safety catch trigger fitted at same time as servuce. It will cost you about £100 inc posting

Its worth getting the safety catch fitted. My wife shot herself in the foot :P:good::lol:

If it's £100 for service and safety catch wouldn't be as cost effective to buy a new one? My local gun shop is doing the new version with chequering and catch for £325 I've seen them on the net for around £300. Sorry if I missed something!

The gun you have been offered. does it come with scope/ gun bag/ silencer/ and some way of re filling the air cylinder (pump or bottle).

If so and the gun is in good condition like I said it will be a bargain. (the trigger and service is optional not necessary)

If it does not come as a complete setup then buying a new one will obviously be the answer to your question. :P

I assumed the gun you had been offered was a complete set up. :good:

My S410 cost me almost £700 as a complete set up. gun only would have cost me around £400. do you see where I am coming from.

gun is probably fine i have one nearly 3 years old i looked after it but its still as good as the day i bought it.shooting it today in high wind and its as accurate as ever, your finger is the only safety you need.i too bought a new s400 have yet to use the safety, common sense is all thats needed.good reliable little gun you will know by condition if it has been looked after.

Yeah, see where you're coming from but it is gun and silencer only for £230 inc post - no bottle, no scope, no gun bag.

To be honest I thought it might be just a touch on the high side, but if you apply the rule of secondhand being about 2/3 rds of new its about there! maybe £10 high at the most. So I think I'll go for it as it looks OK - unfortunately too far away to test, so trying to develop good rapport with seller to establish history etc

Well in that case I would pay the extra £95 and get the new one. Better looking gun with a guarantee and at least that way you now what the gun had done and where its been. And with the safety catch that does make a differance. thats why 95% of guns have a safety catch fitted as standard.

The gun shop should also do you a good deal if you are buying a full set up. Pick up a air gun mag and have a look as the combo deals in them just to give you an Idea.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well I took the plunge and went for the S/Hand S400, just waiting for it to arrive now and then I can get the other bits I need for the setup, mounts bag and bottle, can't wait.

Curious to know does anyone use both s400 and s410?, apart from the multi shot is it significantly different in a practical sense out in the field?

???

The s410 has a regulator in it unlike the s400 which doesnt. I have the older s400 and the way i get around the saftey issue is, put a pellet in the chamber but without cocking it, then when you want to shoot you pull back the bolt and fire. If the chance of a shot disapears you pull back the bolt to the maximum and then hold in the trigger, then you realease the bolt followed by the trigger. It works for me but i suggest that you practise this a few times first while the gun is pointing at the ground and not loaded for safety reasons.

p.s the s400 is a great gun, mine is in .177 and has taken hundreds of vermin in the 3(think its 3) years ive had it. Try h&n feild in it , works best in my gun.

I have ordered a simmons 4-12 x 40 Pro air, I have the 6-18 on my weihrauch 95K and I'm dead pleased. Had the 4-12 in the past with no probs.

Just need to get some medium mounts a bottle and a bag for the s400 then I'm sorted - could have the possibility of some land to shoot over as well, things are looking up.
