Yes sure.

Ok, so only Delburto from the page came as a gun.

As Delburto was traveling a fair distance he came to my humble abode early doors for a coffee and a chat. The meeting point was 07.45 at the pub. Prompt and on time, everyone met and said their hellos then off up to the farm in convoy taking extra care as the roads were icy.

This was my first time organising a shoot.

All 20 guns turned up, we had coffee and a document check then pulled the peg numbers. Like clockwork, 08.30 we headed off to the first drive which was a short walk behind the manor house.

Guns 11-20 where shooting this drive and 1-10 beating. I explained where they pegs were and everyone agreed as to where they should be stood. The drive produced no high birds...around 20/30 ran out the end of the wood where guns 11 and 12 should of been....so the drive was ruined.

Back to the farm, I said a few choice words as the guns at fault were my brother and Pigeon Man! We jumped in the vehicles and set off for drive number 2.

This was a big drive as we pushed one wood into the main wood, and then drive the main wood for the guns. The wind was howling and made shooting difficult, the birds appeared to have the flight capabilities of a suicide pigeon. We struggled on tis drive as the birds were lifting to the tree tops, dipping a wing and following the wind away from the guns. I think this drive produced a couple of birds.

After this, we had lunch. I telephone ordered a loads of chips from the local chippy and we washed these down with port, sloe gin and presecco.

Thinking on my feet, I decided to have a walking line of guns around the reeds of the last pen. I lined out all 20 guns and this produced a couple more birds.

Back to the vehicles, more port and gin, then off to drive 3. Again this was a big drive and I was feeling really anxious as we had a poor bag so far and not many shots. We pushed this drive with vigour and produced some great birds for the guns. I think they managed 4/5 from this drive but also missed a few easy ones. As the day had been full on with little rest, I decided to cram anther 20 gun walk in before dark. We pushed the reeds from pen one where we lost the birds on the first drive. We all lined out and walked this up...it was looking pretty disappointing and I was becoming frustrated....! Then right near the end of the drive we had a flurry of birds lifting and a volly of blasting guns ensued. Another four birds to the tally.

Everyone seems to have a great day. The bag was a mere 11 for the effort we put in, but non the less we had a great time and met some good people. I was expecting close to 50 given the previous weeks shooting!!

Thanks for coming and hopefully, as this was a success, my permission owner will allow me to do this again next season.

Thanks again,

Chris.
