Dexter.1
Just thought I'd pop a thread up because I'm going to have my first lesson on the clays tomorrow - don't know what to expect, had a chat with the instructor sounds a nice guy. Bit of a leap from the air rifles I'm used to, but hopefully develops into some real enjoyment.
Andy W
Which ground are you going? I have been shooting since last June but had become stagnant with no signs of improvement so I booked a lesson at Shugborough Shooting School which I had last Friday and had my second lesson today, even after my first lesson last week my improvement on my next shoot was remarkable. Take a note pad with you and write it all down at the end of the lesson while it is still fresh in your memory, there is a lot to take in and it is good to look back on your notes. pin
Taking something to note down the major pointers you get is an excellent tip. In an hour you will get a good few pointers and I bet by the end of it you won't remember 50% of them Go with an open mind, don't worry about the standard you are at and just try and listen and take in as much as you can. Don't be afraid to slow him down or speed him up if you think things are not progressing as you like - any skilled instructor will read you and know what's best and pace things accordingly. From experience of instructing technically over many years an instructor likes someone who will listen to instructions and try to do as asked without question initially, after you try something give him feedback on how it felt and he will be glad of it, not before
Dexter.1
Cheers, notebook is a great idea that I wouldn't have done, going to Cloudside in Congleton by the way
Andy W
Please post how you go on, Cloudside it is only 11 miles from me but I have never shot there as apparently if you go solo you need some one to trap for you, instead I was going over to Doveridge regularly to practice as they are equipped for solo shooters. Where in Cheshire are you from? You know you have shoots in Holmes Chapel and Macclesfield, I am trying to get some of my shooting buddies across to Macc in the very near future. OK so I went down there today and really enjoyed it, very friendly and helpful. They said I did well and I suppose that I hit quite a few more than I missed so was happy about that. Used a Miroku 30" (I believe), it felt heavy after a while and I needed quite a few breaks but I guess that will come with time. The way the traps worked did have a remote button so I guess if your were alone it would be tricky - at least for a beginner. On other shoots, I thought the Holmes Chappel place had closed - don't know about Macc'. I'm South Warrington area, so I was told that Catton Hall is somewhere to go - I thought it was for corporate stuff so never looked seriously. Question now is what is the next move, licence application I guess and a good chat with folks and try out a few guns -
Andy W
Glad you enjoyed it, I find the Miroku a bit big particularly in the forend, if you can, handle a few Berettas I have one and love it and get that licence application in quick so you can have a gun in plenty of time for the summer. Regarding Holmes Chapel I was speaking to a mate and he said as far as he knows they are still on, never been my self though, and the Macc shoot is called Jims, it has been mentioned on this forum before. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=26940
me and my lad
from what i can remeber of Catton Hall you dont actually shoot there, ground close by. my lad did an archery thing there and to be honest it was **** !! youre not to far away from north wales shooting school, one of the instructors there is coaching my lad. hes a great instructor, has got my lad onto 22 ex 25 just about every time. if you get chance its always worth just watching someone have a lesson, ive picked up so much just from watching my lad shoot with him.
