Noidea
I am a member of the BASC. Seemed a good idea to be a member of a society that supports shooting, and tie in all my insurance needs. They also gave me some good advice when I was waiting for my SGC (as it took a lot longer than it should of done, due to delays in the Essex Firearms). Plus you get a good magazine to read through. One thing that was good advice for me is that if you plan to get 4 guns then buy a 5 gun cabinet and so on..... Fitting 4 guns in a 4 gun cabinet can often be quite a tight fit and you are likely to damage them. Especially if you have a SxS as they take up more room. I have read through a few policies since last night and this still seems to suit me best, have a couple more to look at but this does seem to offer what I want will take the space issue on board. the cabinets can be got for next to nothing so I will start with a 3 with a view to possibly ending up with 2 types of gun, and maybe getting the bug and wanting more, then il just spend a little more on another cabinet like a 5or6 Sound advice Thank you No. OK straight to the point, that's all I needed, getting a better picture all the time, superb Thank you
Therealchucknorris
If you want to progress with an FAC at some point then a big cabinet is a must. I have a six gun cabinet but can only just squeeze four scoped rifles in there, I've had to pick up another cabinet just for the other shotguns I have. At the time I applied for my SGC I didn't think I wanted to go down the FAC route (I thought air rifle and shotguns would be enough) but sure enough it didn't take too long and I've got more shooting opportunities and less time to fit it all in. I would love an FAC, thought about it a lot and did my research but for me at the moment its a long way off, far too complicated, far too dangerous for where I live and plan on shooting, plus getting the permission from locals would be Nye on impossible, tasted venison for the first time at big kayak meet in north Norfolk last year, and want more of the stuff, I know how to dress deer in theory, I don't think I would waste any of a kill, and the actual rifle side of the sporting sense really gives me that lust to chase up that sort of certificate, I love the skill involved in using the air rifle equipment I have been using to get grouped shots, but an air rifle isn't going to end up killing someone if I, or infact they get something wrong, so I think that shot gun is the way to go for now, but in the future who knows, I may end up with a case of 10 rifles and trophies on the shelf for my shooting skill
Therealchucknorris
Makes sense to work your way up to a bigger rifle but just note that a shotgun can also kill someone if you get it wrong. Air rifles are bags of fun and I use mine down on the farm and have managed to amass a modest collection of competition medals courtesy of my S510 so don't neglect that when you purchase your shotguns
phaedra1106
As far as cabinets go, bare in mind the capacities are for O/U shotguns with no bits sticking out of the sides, add a couple of rifles with scopes or bipods or even a semi-auto shotgun or two and you'll run out of space well before the quoted capacity. Go for one at least 50% bigger than you think you'll need or even double the size, and don't forget, if you're thinking of getting an FAC and scoped rifles now would be the time to get a deep enough cabinet, around 350mm would do nicely (most shotgun cabs are 200-220mm)
