Hello all,

I wrote a post the other day in general shooting matters titled Advice please, and thanks for those who replied, We have heard back from the authorities contacted, and have now got the letters and permission signed off so we were good to go.

First thing we thought of was how do you get near big bunches of roe that are all looking around (many eyes) out on the levels with no cover for miles, bar the odd lone tree or bush.

These deer are particularly flighty as you can imagine with such a good field of vision. But as we all know vision isn't their stongest asset.

We tried stalking them,(no good) we then tried sitting for hours where they regularly are, likewise (no good)

We realized that the only way to get anywhere near in range was in a vehicle, and those that have done this know that they keep about two fields in front.

Last year I had a lot of success shooting fox's from a tower on my mates farm, so thought that's the way to go. So not wanting to be stuck in one place, I put a 7x3 foot tower in the back of my trailer. and we evolved from there.

I had a lot of fine green mesh for keeping flies out of buildings, three times around the tower made us invisable, one layer slightly higher up made a flap we could slide the rifles through,A piece of wood either side for a rest and we were nearly done. With our feet about 7/8 feet of the ground and rifles about another 4 above that we had ourselves a very good and safe mobile high seat but in our case stand with good downward shooting.

Please bear in mind this is not sporting shooting this is out and out clearance, I'm hoping that after we have taken a few they will get the message and leave the area (hopes).

We also made an aggreement between ourselves that we would only take one per day. But as in previous

post farmer wants them gone so we have to show willing not to let others in.

Enough waffle from me took a doe today with the .270 and no she wasn't carrying.
