wildfowler.250
Anyone know what the legalities are for using a herring net on the beach? I know it has to be a monofilament but any ideas what sort of material and size of netting is allowed? I'm thinking the bigger the better but don't want something that's going to land me a salmon and get me nicked Would appreciate any advice. Of not I'll try and track down the local bailiff
fandango
Try and get a copy of your local bye laws as each fisheries area is different,, we have a 200ft limit on beach nets length and can only set them from dec1st to 31st may, on the beach ( so we don't catch salmon, sea trout) there is a mesh size for our area but can't remember what it is,, I use 4" which is ok and catches better than the smaller mesh sizes if you leave enough "bag" in the net. There isn't many rules for beach netting but the ones that are in place need to be adhered too.
happy.plinker
As Fandango says definately go speak to your local fisheries officer, you must get it right- net type mesh size and length and target species, so if someone approaches you and theres hassle you can tell them the law and the officers name you spoke to.
