Marki
I have a couple of older guns that I would like to refurb at some point so, rather than starting on those, I decided to use a Chinese airgun stock for practice. I'm at the point of oiling it and I'm a little lost, not hard to be fair, I only found out about burnishing today! I'm using teak oil and have applied about 4 coats. The last one I burnished with 600 grit wet and dry. I assume that I have to continue doing this with higher grades to get a sheen? The oil doesn't appear to be drying, the stock has a greasy feel to it. Do I just give it a good wipe down when I'm happy with the finish or will it eventually dry? Two areas seem to really suck up the oil. Do I just keep applying it until this stops? Thanks for any advice.
welshwarrior
If it's a sticky greasy feel the coats if oil have not hardened before you put the next one on.
Marki
Nope just greasy. How long should I leave between coats?
welshwarrior
At least 24hrs rubbing up an hour after the coat has been applied or as the oil feels tacky.
