scoobie007
Evening guys After a return to air gunning, im hoping to get some serious time in with my .22 bsa ultra multishot. (mmc version) This weekend im hoping to put a few brands of pellet through it, to find out which it prefers. Ive googled and googled and youtube'd many videos, but im still non the wiser as to some pellet choices. I know every barrel is different, but from what ive read, bsa barrels like a larger pellet?. Before I go and purchase a few different brands, id appreciate a point in the right direction, if anything to save money on brands that arnt much cop, and to give me a good starting point. So if anyone who has a bsa ultra mk1 in .22, it would be great if you could let me know the brands you have had most success with, and the brands to avoid. I know this question has been done to death, and I apologise. Just to clarify, max shooting range will be 35 yards, live targets are not presently on the menu, but all advice greatly appreciated :-) Edited May 6, 2014 by scoobie007
chrisjpainter
I know this question has been done to death, and I apologise. Scandal! ban him from the site!! Jokes You're right in that the wider pellets seem to work best in BSA guns, but you can also do a good narrowing down beyond that too: AA Diabolo field work brilliantly in any gun. high quality pellet and a good weight for .22 @ 16gr H&N FTT again good quality pellet, not always liked by barrels, but my R10 seemed to do well enough on them. @ 14.6 they're a bit lighter than the AA and so have a flatter trajectory Bisley Magnums tend to perform really well in BSA guns, but in .22 they're really too heavy for a non FAC gun. they group exceptionally, but @ 21gr they're very heavy. JSB Exacts I think are basically the same as AA diabolo field and do as good a job. RWS superfield/dome aren't too shabby either and might be worth a punt. I've never found them to group as well as the above types, but some people swear by them. Crosman premier / accupels are all right as well and have a flat trajectory, only weighing 14.3gr I'd be surprised if you had to look beyond those types to find something that really worked well. I wouldn't bother with eley wasps BSA pellets, or the Bisley Superfield, or those daft prometheus plastic things. If you go on Lebay you can pick up tester packs, which save you a fortune in buying whole tins! The trouble is it can be hard to get the right brands and you may not get enough in a pack to really test them, but it should give a good idea. scoobie007
Excellent thankyou :-) AA fields have popped up a few times during a few googling sessions. I will certainly be adding those to the list, out of interest, ive also read that the magazine / cycling mechanism of the mk1 ultra can be a bit temperamental, any known issues from using a slightly larger pellet?. Im not sure, but I think the magazines supplied with mine are the 2nd gen version, red in colour? Thanks again :-)
NIGHT SEARCHER
Have a look at. www.pelletperfrct.co.uk Lots of pellets to try sample packs.
secretagentmole
Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum worked well in my .22 Ultra (as well as the Super 10 that replaced it in my collection).
