I have done this and the savings are good.

I used to always be changing bulbs and it was annoying to say the least.

Led bulbs dont heat up as much and more efficient.

I got mine from http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp;jsessionid=PHKRB44ZCN5IQCQLCIRJOXQ?N=411&Ntk=gensearch&Ntt=led+gu10&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&exposeLevel2Refinement=true&suggestions=false&ref=globalsearch&_requestid=534673 saved a fortune have a look.

forgot to say the more you order the cheaper they become so don't be put off by the first price you see.

After buying some rubbish on ebay from a chinese seller (aweful LED's - green in colour and a horrible flicker), I got some excellent ones from here:

I didn't use the halogen GU10 downlighters like what you have - just regular bayonet type fittings.

One thing I will say is that when they say 40w or 60w equivalent, they usually aren't quite. Go for something brighter than quoted.

My '40W' equivalent consumes 3.5w - which is amazing.

Also watch out for the colour temperature of the light. I find the 'cool white' colours to be a bit too stark, and prefer the 'warm white' types, but this is personal preference.
