malkiserow
Hi All, What distance is normal to set back a .243 from the end of your chamber length. The standard brass length is 51.8 (lee trimmer) so I guess the chamber is a bit longer but what is normal and at what point to problems arise (too short in particular)? what is the optimum length of the brass to the chamber length? Kes
This is not a direct answer but may hint at it. I lost a bullet (head) when unloading recently (I dont crimp) and a few strands of powder lodged at the end of the chamber. These are maybe a thou in diameter? The next round would not chamber until the few strands of powder were cleared. Brass to chamber length is not a problem if you have your own fired brass but using new I would stick very closely to the book. Some bought once fired brass I have used has had to be re-sized. Overall variation between different rifles cant be much above 3 thou.
phaedra1106
Saami spec for the 243 case length is max 2.045" (51.94mm) +0 - 0.02" (0.51mm). The actual chamber specs (from base to the end of the neck before the chamber taper) are, Length 2.055" (52.20mm) with a tolerance of +0.015" (0.38mm) - 0, Diameter is 0.4738" (12.035mm) with a tolerance of + 0.002" (0.05mm) - 0 So, assuming worst case of a minimum cut chamber of 2.055" and a maximum case length of 2.045" you should have at least a minimum of 0.01" clearance.
