243 deer round

Recommended Posts

Hi people,

I am hoping to get my 243 variation soon and I have got to thinking about bullets .Can anyone suggest a weight and brand of bullet that would suit mainly roe but red as well I am thinking about a howa 1500 not sure what twist rate is on them and what difference that would make.

cheers

chris

Twist fate on mine is 1-10, I use Norma 75 BT (£26 a box) on fox and munties, or Norma 100 soft point (£36 a box!!!) on bigger stuff. Groups well, 100s seem ok for 2 shots but after that the barrel walks a lot on mine. Not as much if I use the 75s, usually do 4 or 5 shots within 2" at 100 yards. Mine didn't like remington 100s at all.

The perfect bullet for Roe is not always going to make the perfect bullet for Reds. What you need careful thought on is impact speed. Further away means less dramatic expansion. You need to remember there is a big difference in size

A good all round 6mm / .243 Deer bullet? I think its hard to better a 100 grain Seirra ProHunter. Std Twist .243 win is all you need away from target shooting and VLDs, don't worry yourself over twist its mainly internet bunkum from people who need to get a grip over theory and practice differences.
