a.f.dickin
Hi all, I have a shotgun license and enjoy clay pigeon shooting, but I am also a member of a rifle club and about to apply for a firearms license mainly so I don't need to keep borrowing the clubs .22 rimfire all the time. My question is.... which guns " I intend to acquire ", as I don't really know at the moment what I will fancy in the future, I know I would like at the moment a .22 rimfire, and possibly a .303 lee-enfield, and a winchester under lever yellow boy / or 1873, all for bisley and targets etc. Can this "intention to acquire" be changed in the future, or does anyone have any advice to be slight future proof, and ammunition, possibly someone has been this situation before, rather than simply at the moment just .22 rimfire as that is what I want at the moment. Scully
Simply enter all firearms you wish to obtain in the relevant place on the application. If you can show 'good reason' for each firearm applied for, and being a member of a HO approved club is 'good reason', then apply for whatever you want. I'm not sure what you mean by 'can intention to acquire be changed in the future,' but you can chop and change your mind about the firearms you have and want once you have your ticket, but unless its a 1 for 1 variation there will be a cost incurred. The members of your club would be better placed to ask about ammo quantities, depending on the disciplines you intend to shoot. Edit: Don't forget to ask for coterminous tickets. The Juicer
Over here you go in to rfd, pick gun, pay deposit and send application in with the guns serial number, then await the decision. There no carte blanche per calibre for the future purchase
deershooter
Wanting a firearm is not a good reason to own one in the UK you have to prove you have a need for one , just because you fancy a .308 or a .300 WSM doesn't mean you will get one. Being a member of a club helps but you might struggle on a first application for more than 2 or 3 ,go for something you can shoot at your local range ie.357 ,.22 and possibly a full bore ie .303 don't be too greedy and learn to walk before you run . Richo85
I would go for your 22 rimfire as you will never be without it, target and rough shooting also apply for another that you can use regular at your club. I find that on your 1st application feo would like you to get experience first in owning and using your own firearms. Then after 1-2 years they relax a bit. a.f.dickin
Thanks, I spoke to the guys down the club last night as well, and figured .22lr to begin with as they said a couple of thought, don't put down more than 2 or 3 on first application, and secondly they don't like it if you put something down and when it comes to renewal you don't have it. Cheers, now begins the long wait - essex police are saying 16 weeks for a new grant......
