grahamch
Am off to Orkney in a couple of weeks and will be using lead inland most of the trip. Will need to use non toxic over ponds and flashes etc. and need to get some steel loads up there. Any recommendations for a 3 inch load and shot size for both geese and ducks to be used in a Beretta auto. I normally use TM or Hevishot but as am flying up it's not worth taking shells with me due to weight limits and have no idea on which steel loads are any good. Price is not an issue. Wildfowler12
Personally I use nothing but Gamebore Steel, #3's for duck, and #1's or BB's for geese. If you're only shooting ponds/flashes, and not pass shooting on the foreshore, you probably don't even need 3' loads. Gamebore Super Steel 2 3/4' (32g) will fit the bill at around £5 a box. kent
Up to 30-35 yards head and neck shooting Remington Nitro steel in number 2 work well. Have used 36 grn number 3 Gamebore mammoth a lot but more at a push over intentional goose shooting. In all honesty you need number 1 upwards in size, for anything but good head / neck shots, you do not need more than 36 g of pellets through a 12 ga though if the gun and choke combo likes them enough on the plate
