Pykie
After reading the article in Sporting Shooter magazine of two of the writers shooting 19 species in one day with a variety of methods and guns, I wander who else has tried such a feat and how did they do? JDog
I once shot a roe deer at first light, then up onto the hill and shot grouse, black cock and then further up the hill and shot ptarmigan. Walking to a flight pond in the evening I shot a hill partridge, then a pigeon, a snipe, a blue hare, and a mixy rabbit. During the flight I shot mallard and teal. Later that evening the cook at the Lodge was added to the bag.
Teal
I've never really gone out to try and bag the most species, I haven't read the article, but if you did I imagine you would chalk up many of the more straightforward species first, such as squirrel, rabbit, rat, woodpigeon, rook, jackdaw and magpie and you'd already be at 7 before you've even thought of pheasant, partridge or wildfowl. No doubt a late night fox would be added too. However, the type of shooting I often do will result in a mixed bag, I think the best is 11 or 12 species. This is one that I had a couple of years ago, I think there were 10 species in there: http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/topic/49429-another-good-species-day-on-varied-land it's nice to have variety, but I'm not sure dashing around in a mad rush and ticking things off a list is the way I'd like to do it.
