NGhost
I have not shot for about 8 months due to a back problem. When I had a go 2 weeks ago I fired 8 shots all misses! Instead of paying £15 for 50 Clays at a local ground, I got a cheap target thrower (Trap) (£66 inc P&P) from Deben. After 100 clays I was smoking every one at any angle, my fellow shooter was doing the same. The cost of the clays was £8, so we nearly paid for the thing in 1 use. The benefits of doing it your self is that you can keep going with the dificult shots untill you get it right. Later 1 pigeon came over a hedge, it was down in 1 clean shot. (only 1 came over as all the noise from the clay sesion had put them all to flight)
Crow_Misser
I'm looking to get a cheap trap to get some practice in. What are your thoughts on the target thrower you got? Is it good value for the money? Cheers CM
NGhost
It is quite light, make sure the bolts are all tight. It throws a single clay quite a way and a double at a usable distance. It is probably the best value for money around but dont expect the performance of a £400 trap. It is also quite stiff to set, realy an adult job. It held well in the ground for around 100 throws, then needed moving and re setting in the ground. It has a spare tyer option wich I think should work well. Follow the link on: http://www.deben.com/ to clay traps.
Crow_Misser
realy an adult job. Unfortunately I qualify as an adult (may not act like one sometimes) Time to get the credit card out again...... Cheers for the info. Guest flightline
Do you have your own land? If not, i guess the farmer must have been OK about your session? This would be my problem; getting somewhere to practise.
NGhost
He lets us use a few acres of setaside that is waterlogged. But I am sure he would let us use any bit of land as long as he gets his fees!
red_stag88
Anyone ever shot clays off the back off a boat? In British coastal waters do you need Bismuth

NGhost
Yep! Deben are fast. I often buy things on line from them as by the time I get time to pop to the gun shop it would have been deliverd from deben. Its a sham they dont do 223 ammo boxes.
