simonww
as i'm in the middle of making a ghillie suit, are there any shooters out there who have used one to good affect rather than use a hide
Cranfield
I often use a "stalking" net coat that I bought in the US. It is a long net coat with short strips of cammo material covering all of it, with a built in hood and face net. Worn with cammo trousers and gloves, it is excellent for sitting in hedges, standing in woodland, etc. It does enable you to remain very mobile on a shooting day. You do need to be against a background, for it to be at its most effective. The main shortcoming, is that you really do need to keep still. When shooting birds over crops, you tend to twist and turn your head, or the upper part of your body looking for birds from a few different directions. You can do this below the top of a hide without being seen, but when sitting, or standing, in the open, its not so easy. One other problem, its not waterproof, so I have to wear a waterproof garment under it.
