welsh1
This afternoon i met up with inderraj(Indy) after he posted in shooting opportunities wanted,he is down my way in Pembrokeshire in the Army and it is difficult to find permission as most land is spoken for. So we popped off to a favourite little permission of mine to see if we could find anything, when we got there the ground was very muddy and chewed up by the 20 or so bullocks they have in there, but there was no wind or rain which is a first for quite a while so we set off,Jake was soon hinting there was something in the hedgerow at the bottom of the field and we got into position and sent him in,a second later our first Woodcock,we both shot and missed, and then both shot again, the Woodcock tumbled out of the sky,i am not surprised as there was enough lead to bring down a Zeppelin, but who had hit it?i think it was to close to call so we officially have half a woodcock each on the scorecard We continued to stroll around and have to admit to missing a couple of opportunities to us chatting,Jake continued to work hard and flushed at least another three woodcock but these clever birds exited the opposite side to where we were.We then moved on to a field with a small marsh in the middle which usually has some Snipe in it,i told Indy that these were like little exocets and difficult to hit and i am not sure if he believed me,but Jake was soon letting us know there were Snipe there and it was difficult to hold him he was so keen, when he flushed a half dozen went up and despite lots of shots we hit nothing,we then moved up and Jake flushed again and another half dozen , i got lucky and managed to hit one.we then had a Pheasant flushed but to far away to waste a shell. I got to play with Indy's very nice Mossberg pump action(think i now need one)very smooth action and comes up to the shoulder a treat,Indy had a few shots of the CZ .17 HMR and i think he has the HMR bug So a Snipe and a Woodcock for a walkabout with some very good company and a genuinely nice bloke,Indy it was a pleasure and we will have to get out again, hopefully we will see some rabbits next time The obligatory photos, Jake kindly took this for us, what a talented gundog he is The afternoons bag Edited January 17, 2015 by welsh1

TaxiDriver
Indy, Keep an eye on Robs glasses for him I've also been privaledged to have had an afternoon/early evening being taken out on a patch of Robs permission when I was down in his neck of the woods on holiday. Your description of the muddy field with the bullocks sounds like the same place possibly. He's a top bloke and I'm sure he'll see you right. welsh1
Mr Taxi Driver you are right in your guess, it was the same permission, but the glasses have been consigned to a drawer in the kitchen, contact lenses now, hopefully not as easy to leave on the bonnet and drive over the field with them bouncing off,and as i only wear one contact lens for close vision in my left eye which is also my dominant eye it acts as a slight blur when shooting at distance correcting the eye dominance, win win, still can't hit a barn door though You know the invite still stands if you are down this neck of the woods again
