welsh1
I am at work and shooting deer came up in conversation, I was asked why it was shot side on, I explained that it was to take out the heart and lungs and was one of the largest areas to aim for, I was then asked did the meat not spoil when the deer ran? I said no but do not have an answer as to why, could one of the collective explain so I can pass it on, he is comparing a sheep or pig running and then being slaughtered, Thanks in advance. Thunderbird
I'm no expert but could it be to do with the stress and adrenaline levels? What I mean is that an animal running around being chased knowing it's about to be killed, is a bit different from a muscular reaction of an animal just running out its last before it dies. Does that make sense? I may be way off....
welsh1
It makes sense to me, I also thought that as the heart was destroyed it wasn't pumping blood around to put oxygen into the muscle
r1steele
It makes sense to me, I also thought that as the heart was destroyed it wasn't pumping blood around to put oxygen into the muscle It's not so much Oxygen that spoils the meat but as Thunderbird has mentioned, it is the adrenaline that spoils the meat.
