Mentalmac
Hi All, Looking like my nice little old vitara shooting wagon has got a head gasket faliure on the cards... Is it quicker and cheaper to perhaps just get a second hand engine and plonk it in rather than getting someone to do a full replacement for me? How long would it take in hours for an engine swap do you guys think?
glb8686
I would have thought a head gasket swap would be easier. If you bought a new engine you'd be wanting to re clutch it and fit new timing belt and water pump while it's out.
Blackbart
Head gasket much easier and quicker than an engine swap
Mentalmac
Thanks chaps. I'll look into getting that sorted :-). Hopefully not too expensive,
neil82
what engine is it, if its the pug 2.0 diesel to take the head off the injectors have to come out, and there are plenty of horror stories on the web about them welding themselves in, last one I did we ended up lifting the whole front end off the ground by an offending injector and leaving it hanging over a weekend soaked in penetrating oil, thankfully when we went in on Monday the front wheels were back on the ground, still bitch of a job tho
