Elk hunter
Well late this afternoon I hooked up with a friend of mine over Nuneaton way as he wanted me to bring my new toy out. I have not had the time to zero it so Neil put up a target board at 100 yards. After half hour 5 shot grouping within an inch using Winchester subs, superbly accurate. We had a walk around and to be honest I missed over 10 rabbits. Just because I'm was not used to the safety catch, by the time it was off they had moved on. Then the light started to fade and we went for a cup of tea till dark. 6.30 and we ventured out into the night with a lamp. Lots of rabbits but Neil normally uses NV and the lamp spooked many. But after numerous runners one stopped, shouldered the Mini Mauser and bang on head shot. First blood and well chuffed that my 70 year old rifle can still knock them flat. 10 minute later took another at a good 100 yards and again bowled it over. As we walked over Neil ran the lamp around the field with a tap on the shoulder "fox". I knelt down and Neil squeaked and it came trotting in and in and in. Then suddenly stopped at under 60 yards. Looking directly at us I placed the cross on the chest squeezed the trigger. The young vixen just collapsed on the spot. One hour out with the lamp with a pre war sporting rifle and scope bagging 2 bunnies and a fox. Makes me wonder how many it's taken in all the years before I owned it. Andrew. Underdog
Excellent bit of shooting. The humble little 22 in the hands of a marksman is amazing. No sticks? U.
Elk hunter
Hate sticks, just can not get on with them, I can not even use one to walk with stalking in Scotland. But Ive practiced for years shooting free standing, kneeling, laying without any aids and Ive become a very good shot with rim fire or C/F. No dark art just time spent doing it, plus I get a buzz doing it. Andrew
