paulbeckett
I am looking for some information on one of my brothers shotgun. All I know is I think it's a A G Oakes 12 gauge, hammer action, black powder shotgun. Also would love to know roughly what it's worth as I am selling it for his wife as he has recently passed away. Thanks in advance
Blackpowder
Even gunsmiths wont give a valuation without seeing and handling the gun. Value depends upon condition and quality of the gun best take it to your nearest gunsmith for valuation. Blackpowder
Gunman
There was C Oakes of Lewes . a C Oakes of Horsham also 1810/1870 and a MA Oakes of Horsham up until 1900. I would speculate it is a Birmingham made gun sold by Oakes and signed by him . Due to its age and being black powder I strongly advise you to have it checked by a competent person . Unless the gun is in very good condition or of very high quality its value will not be very much . There may be collectors of Oakes guns in the Horsham area as with most "local guns" , this would possibly reflect in its saleability in that area rather than its value .
