RDP
Good Evening, I noticed after shooting last weekend that the tips of my barrels had seemingly discoloured slightly. The gun is a 2015 Browning 525 and has fired less than 500 shells, with good cleaning after every shoot. I assumed that this might be some sort of residue from a new type of shell I was using (Eley First 21gm Fibre) but I'm not sure as it didn't wipe away after cleaning. Here is a picture: After I clean the gun I give all the metal a light wipe over with a rag that has Bisley gun oil on it. Is this a problem or do I just need to adjust my cleaning routine? Cheers. Harnser
Looks like some kind of rust or corrosion . Try rubbing it lightly with some very fine wire wool with lots of oil on the barrel . This is a good way of removing light corrosion or staining from blued steel . Harnser

That sounds like a good way of removing the bluing as well if you are not very careful. RDP my guess is its powder residue. Try some powder solvent like Hoppes no9 on a rag. Tom-b
Do not wire wool your barrels! This happens on most guns. It's caused by cartridge residue after shooting the gun. It's nothing to worry about, it's exactly the same on my perazzi. You can stop it with extended chokes as they catch the residue before it touches you barrels
Gunman
Do you use a gun slip ? I frequently see blacking worn off by people using gun slips . Best to use one that has a full length zip rather than just sliding it in. They are also very hard to get dry if they do get damp in them .DO NOT wire wool . Or perhaps that should be use wire wool , barrel blackers need the work
