Best time of day?

Hi all, (Newbie Alert !!!)

I'm sure this question must have been asked before so my apologies first. I'm doing a bit of roost shooting later today in a small wood on my father-in-laws farm. My question has to do with timing, what time do the Woodies generally turn in for the night? I have been doing a bit of re-con and my best (uneducated) guess is about 3pm onwards?

When getting started should I be standing more to the edge of the wood to catch them flying in or more in the middle to catch them as they land?

Any advice would be gratefully received

Cheers

John.

If I were you I would get there as early as possible (maybe 2pm). You may find that pigeons are in and out of the woods all the time. Being there early will let you have a roam about the woods and see where the birds are coming/going. You may even be able to bag yourself a squirrel or two at the same time. Best of luck. Too late for 2pm now, though, but still plenty of time.

Cheers Motty,

Went down at about 2.30pm in the end, managed to bag a couple of crows early on but no luck with the Woodies! There was a few about but they never seemed to present me with a decent shot and the few that did I bloody missed!! Fast little ******s ain't they
