lesf
A mate of mine wants to change his rifle. He has decided on a Sako - but what calibre .223 or 22.250? He asked me for advice - ******** if I know I use a .243 quite happy. It will be set up for permenant night use (charlie bashing)with an Archer night sight. I thought I would throw the question open to you purists for debate as to the whys and wherefors, The fields in this neck of the woods are not too big so no need for varmint barrel and with a moderator and night sight it is going to be a lump anyway. What d'yer think? ATB LesF

Too many lumps and bumps hedges and hills. I thought the .223, dont quite know why but I think they have a greater variety of bullit heads available. JRDS
I would agree with that, if the ranges are not too long (and they will not be soley using night vision where ever you shoot) then 223 would be the obvious choice. Don't know what the eye relief is like on an Archer but the lighter recoil could well be a bonus also. If he is thinking of a Sako he may like to get his skates on and source a 75 before they are sold out, my local gunsmith reckons the new 85's are not as good although I haven't seen one to compare.
