How far do you test?

Recommended Posts

With 300 and 600 yards on the cards at bisley this year i have been giving longer range shooting a bit of thought and it occured to me that i very very rarely will shoot targets at 200 yards yet alone further. However i do shoot and i might add humainly dispatch vermin at longer ranges. I know in theory the balistic charts are correct, but i dont honestly know what my groups at this range are (this is using my old mans guns not mine  )

So my question is this, have you ever tested your loads for group size and drop at all the different ranges you intend to work out to?

Personally i know i havent, which im pretty sure some will say is awful and you should always shoot targets first and then shoot live. However i expect i am in the majority here.

Got some long range target testing planned for the next week on one of my farms now :P

185yds is the furthest I've tested myself and loads to so being realistic the 300yd range will open up new ground .The rifle is more than capable and I know that but going out to 600yds I have a feeling the S/B cross air will blank out the whole backstop never mind the target  .

Completely different as you already know a Hunting set up compared to a dedicated target rifle set up but I'm really looking forward to the extended range open to myself has i to very rarely get chance .

Now the leupold on my HMR is more than capable and is rated has being a 1000yd scope but I ain't swapping them round .......No way :P:lol::lol:

200 yards is the furthest at the moment, but the more i am getting into reloading, i will be looking to see how i can shoot at the longer ranges. I am doing a lot of things with drop charts etc for all my rilfes, and as long as i can be consistent i will be happy to shoot vermin out at longer ranges
