As above is anyone out there using the latest Go-Pro Black edition that shoots 4k? If so any advice on it before I purchase one? I am looking for advice re which SD card works best, which accessories are best/needed/not needed etc? battery life, which size card etc.
Any advice appreciated.

I've got the 4 black.

Great video quality. Easy to use. Lots of features. I've got 64gb sandisk memory in it, and in fairness the batteries will run out before the card! I haven't used the 4k setting as I can't edit it or watch it, not having anything 4k to run it on. You'll need a serious PC to edit the videos too and good internet if you want to upload to the net. 45mins of 1080p takes me approx 4hrs to render on my 3 month old high spec laptop.

Now the bad bit! Battery life is really poor. 1080p with wifi on battery lasts approx 40 mins of continuous filming, this is improved to 60 mins with wifi turned off. Downside of the black is it doesn't have the lcd screen on the back, so you have to use the app to make sure the camera is pointing in the right direction, this uses wifi and lots of battery. I've got 4 batteries now to make sure I can get enough footage.

Accessories, depends on what you want to do with it. I've found and use various clamps, as I'm strapping mine onto steam engines. Best bet, decide what you want to do, then go buy the clamp you need. I use the Joby clamps from Argos. The heavy duty gopro sucker is excellent for flat surfaces too.

Apart from the above I love mine! The night time time lapses you can do are just amazing. I just live with the battery but be aware of it.

Thanks for that Stevo_m appreciated. I did not realize the battery was as bad as that though!!! I am hoping to use the 4K feature as have recently bought a 4k TV, however it sounds like the editing and pc work is going to be a challenge!

So are you saying there is no viewing lcd on the rear of the 4?? Therefore you rely on the iphone to view what the camera is seeing, I am ordering it online without actually having seen it and when asked online CUrry's advised me there was an LCD for viewing!!! Seems not lol If I want to shoot 4k for viewing on my TV I am assuming any PC should be able to edit the files, is that correct?

I will look into the joby clamps in Argos ;-) Cheers

The Black does not have the LCD screen, however the Silver does, but the silver does not have the 4K quality! Catch 22 on that! To edit and adjust a 4k video you will need some serious processing power in your PC, otherwise expect to wait a few days for it to be completed! I'm sure it can be done, but I bet you'll switch to the 1080p and halve the time to render the video!

LOL this is exactly what I am fearing!!! Seems you need some decent high spec PC to work on the editing! Think I will still stick to the Black version and at least I can use it on 1080p then as PC improves or I switch to a MAC in the future I will still have serious quality video capability.

Is the free software any good mate? Also any decent forums out there for Go-Pro, the one I found is mainly Americans and is a bit **** to be honest.

Cheers

Since my PC screen is not 4K are you saying its going to be useless trying to get the best quality from the camera?? Sorry for all the questions but I am slowly drifting away from the thought of buying it now!!

I will be using it for capturing clips when on family holidays, bike outings and when out and about with the gun. I had a good chat last night with a go-pro retailer and he has addressed some of my fears. I am just hoping that my PC can deal with the editing side of things but only time will tell, and if it doesn't well its a good excuse to upgrade it ;-)
