Home loads in the .222

Recommended Posts

Well i managed to knacker up my F/L die for the .222 (got a case stuck in it) so i purchased a neck sizing die (got a set for the .270 as well) Got them from over the pond, Redding dies for the .270 and just the neck die for the .222 all for £35 with shipping :good::good:

Went over to my mates house yesterday to make sure i didn't knacker this die :good:

We made up 20 rounds, 50grain Nosler Ballistic tips running on 19.5grain of R7 Federal 205 primers. 10 we just cleaned and neck sized, the other 10 we neck sized, neck turned and flash hole de-burred, so it looks as if i will be getting a neck turning tool and flash hole de-burrer.

A Very happy man :good::good:

looking good mate :good:

Don't know owt about the burn rate of R7 but i'm running Vit N133 at over 24 grns .It'd be interesting to see what FPS 19.5 grn's is giving out .

A Chrono is a worthy addition to the homeloader and it's about time I got one myself :good: It's my Birthday soon :good::good:

It should be doing 3000fps, so i may treat myself to a chrono :/

Kip, I used to run 20.5 grns of R7 through my Howa .222 and that was absolutely brilliant. This was a top load in my rifle though and may not suit yours.

Cheers Graham, this is my starting load (suggested starting 19grn) so i will tweak a bit more, will also be trying some different bullets, but i don't want to mess about too much, once i find the best accuracy i will stick with it. :/:/

Are you sure you need a neck turning tool? Case length resizer, a must. Flash hole internal deburrer and a primer pocket uniformer are probably more benefit for pedantic accuraty freeks like me. I want to make every cartride as dammed as possible identical, to even weighing the cases, I find that Nosler are the most uniform in bullets, weight and dimensions(I used to use Speer 70tnt & 100spbt, but getting hard to source). Then, I know that if accuracy is off, it's me. not the load that's the problem.

Try Reloading Solutions Limited, they don't have a web site, but their 'phone No. is 01865 378200.

I've had some gear from them, and they seem to know what you are talking about.
