starlight32
Is it possible to cast a gun from one hand to the other? I have seen something I like (excellent cond) which is cast heavily right, I will need from experience to have it pushed over left- the shop selling is not a gunsmith and could not give a clear answer as they are unable to take on any fitting. I would not normally buy from an outlet like this because of these issues involved with repairs etc but as the availablity of good condition, quality second hand guns are in short supply I fancy giving it a look. Anyone got any info/thoughts they can give me? Regards Starlight32
MC
Yes this is possible, Jim Spalding at Mersea would do this for you as will Radcliffes in Colchester. I believe it costs around £35.
JRDS
Be wary as there are no 100% guarantees when bending wood, it may spring back if it is very heavily cast for a right hander. I would look elsewhere, loads of nice guns about.
mry716
Any gun that has a pin through the stock for fitting it to the action - most over/unders - is difficult to alter simply because the pin would then need bending to go down a bent hole and will of course not then turn to tighten. As you can appreciate some adjustment is available by drilling a larger diameter hole to allow the pin to turn but the scope for adjustment is limited. Also, all stock alterations are at owners risk, not the person doing the work, should it break. I know of no-one who will take on that job and cover you for breakages, splits of cracks. As has been said the stock may well return in part to its original set and will usually be bent or cast to a far greater extent than the distance required to allow for that. It is this fact that may well give rise to damage.
