OddJob
I've just had the pleasure of inheriting a JP Sauer drilling from my father in law and I'm keen to know the date of it. It's an 8x57JR 16 bore with a serial number of #64636. Are there any other markings I can use to date it per chance?

njc110381
Sorry for the late reply. Remove the fore end of the gun and drop the barrels off. Have a look at the barrel block where the proof marks are stamped. Mine are quite faint and right up at the chamber end of the rifle barrel on the left hand side. There are three proof marks on mine and three (or yours could be four) numbers. Mine is 542 - May 1942. Post up some pictures if you get a chance. I'd love to see it.
