Pheasant123
Hello all. I have a medium sized wood that has good ground cover and good roosting trees in it with a old pen that has not Been used in forever it's still in nice shape. The wood is long but not to wide. I was thinking it would be a good drive if I put down a few hundred pheasants. What do you think? Any and all comments would greatly be appreciated
Scully
Is it the only drive you have? If so I'm not sure it's a good idea to drive your only pen if they have nowhere else to go afterwards.

Scully
Then based on the info' available I don't see why you couldn't use the pen, so long as it's big enough to accommodate the number of birds. Our pen is in an orchard and was there long before we took it over. It only took a few small repairs and a bit of strimming to get it sorted. Birds like cover but they also like to sunbathe, and if you cut rides through the undergrowth with a strimmer or whatever and throw feed in amongst the grass on the rides they will scratch away 'til their hearts content. Cover, food, clean water and somewhere to roost.

Paul T
If it's already installed and in reasonable nick, give it a go for a season. What were the reasons for it being taken out of service though, do you know? The reason I ask is that we've found birds tend not to like very narrow pens - I can only think that they feel a little trapped in and vulnerable. We've widened that pen out this year and had more success in keeping the birds in it.
