treeman
I was thinking of moving over to a pre-charge, but when I found my local shops to see whar was available, they both said they had or were about to, stop selling them. This they said was due to so many problems with them coming back with faults! What do the masses think?
pin
Pre-charged rifles are by and large incredibly reliable. They must have been talking about one particular brand/make, or they were out of stock and wanted to sell you something else.
Cyber
Like Pin said, they were probably reffering to a certain brand. IMO PCP's are well in advance of any other air rifle on the market, but you do get what you pay for!
tosspot
You gotta remember that PCP's can't take the abuse that a springer can you must keep them clean and dust free if you want to perform reliably and leak free i would love to carry my rapid 17 in the cab of my machine at work but it's incredibly dusty and wouldn't take long for it to start playing up i'm sure, so the springer in that situation comes into it's own IMO looked after sensibly PCP's will give many years reliable service
Suffolk shooter
I know when I was looking at getting one (PCP that is), I was warned off by three separate shops about the original S16, as apparently these had a lot of faults, hence the newer version being brought out. As TP said, if you take care of it, there is every chance that this will last for years. I'm lucky, i geot mine from a well known shop in Essex and they offer a free yearly service and lifetime guarantee (to the original owner only) on every one of their guns they sell. SNAKEBITE
Compare a Ford Mondeo (springer) to a Ford GT40 (PCP). Both will do the job but the GT40 will need a higher maintenance schedule, be more expensive on service items and generaly need more fettling. (the comparison is a little tenuous and is not a reflection on performance but on costs and on servicing. If you know what i mean ) A PCP is a good solid item of kit but is less robust than a springer. Look after it and it will not let you down.
