Mike737
I picked my first batch when they were about 14 to 15 inches long. Then, (see other thread) it stopped producing for a while, just making very small, shriveled yellow fruits that failed. I cut all these off, gave it extra fertilizer and now have loads coming again, biggest about 12 inches long, will get picked next week. Good luck. Mike. Mike737
It does of course depend on what type of cucumber you are growing... some only grow to 6 or 8 inches, others are 'full size'. Does it say on the packet or label what you should expect. if they look full and plump, I would have one off to try, the more you pick, the more it should produce. Cheers, Mike. 39TDS
The big one in the pic is ready. As said, they don't necessarily grow as big as the shop bought ones. They do taste a whole lot better though. I find they have tougher skins and a nicer to eat with the skin sliced off. I sold about 50 through our farm shop last year, people prefer them as they have more flavour. Watering is essential, a bit of tomato feed helps too. Pinch the sideshoots out before they get too long. I'm pinching mine out leaving 2 leaves.
