Lancs Lad
Ok. Daughter is becoming a bit sensitive to puppy nipping, he has drawn blood a couple of times where he has caught me, the wife and the daughter. Its nothing mallicious - seems to be when he is in a playful mood, seems to have bouts of it, he just loves my ears...... When giving him a big rub and playful stroke he might try to nip. He is "mouthing" and then puts a bit more pressure. How do you stop it. Some did say try "yelping" but my daughter cant "yelp". Did use a thunderer whistle this evening and he stopped, but dont want to use this as think it will confuse him with the other whistle commands. I have got him comming to the whistle now and want to keep using it positively. Any hints please.....
new to the flock
Using a closed fist come from underneath his lower jaw and give him a good rap and a crisp NO. To play around with it and natter him give a good clip and make it count. NTTF
LEFTY478
Puppies usually "learn" the boundries of play/pain from their siblings; if too much play becomes painfull, then their playmate will "yelp". This helps establish the threashold of 'how much is too much'. Sounds like your pup needs some more 'puppy interaction'.
cleaner4hire
my ess was very nippy when younger - i just did what NTTF said or held his lower jaw firmly between my thumb and finger so he felt uncomfortable. He still 'mouths' now whilst playing with me (9 months old) but understands when he is biting too hard and will stop imediately when told no. Took a couple of weeks i think till he picked it up properly. Its alot better when there puppy teeth drop out B)
