crowdie2013
Has anyone got any experience with a patterdale or a patterdale/collie cross? Ive a 3yr old lab whos a good easy dog and suits well around working family with young kids. Can take him shooting and a good family dog in between. Ive been thinking about getting another dog to keep him company etc when we`re at work. Long and short of it is Ive been offered this 7 week old cross pup. Saw him today and a bold wee thing (black and tan) but having spent a while online trying to read up about them Im no sure. The usual things written-needs plenty of exercise etc which isn't an issue but some things ive read say they can be high maintenance, do a lot of barking and are prone to running off after rabbits etc. Given its a cross with a collie (in my experience either friendly or bite) theres probably no way of telling. My labs outside most of the time and fine with our routine but know nothing about patterdales. Appreciate that with any pup its a bit of lottery and a lot depends on how you train them but any thoughts/advice welcome. Cheers
loriusgarrulus
Had a friend with two patterdales. One was really good, the other was an aggressive nightmare which had to be put down eventually. It's the luck of the draw. Come across a few more, some really good and others bad with other dogs. WGD
Not a cross I'd take on, both breeds have potential to be difficult.
crowdie2013
cheers fellas: aye slept on it last night and decided no to bother. Did a bit of googling and quite a number of patterdales and collies being offered for free up and down the country-usual stuff lovely dog but new job means we cant keep it etc etc... Might all well be genuine but no taking the risk. No offence to any patterdale or collie owners out there- im sure your dogs are spot on ! think I`ll look for a border terrier Edited November 16, 2015 by crowdie2013
Fal
I had a patterdale / border terrier cross. Lovely dog towards humans HATED everything else to the point of it attacking great danes, a belgian malionois had it once, numerous staffys!! I would def give a patterdale x collie a miss, I've had run ins with plenty of nasty collies! But, it's luck of the draw I suppose could turn out to be a lovely dog!
