ratus
Hopefully NTTF or YP can help me with these teethng problems??? my 7 month lab, is comming on well (under control), but when told to sit he decides after 30 seconds to chill out and lay down, as though he's bored, has any one had this problem and if so how did you rectify it? The other obstacle is after a couple of easy retreives which he charges to retreive, he just saunters to the general area, some times to stop and eat fox cr** or anything else that he sniiffs out, any ideas to spark him up a bit, and to keep him on the job he has been sent to do? On the sit, put him on the lead and tell him to sit. When he lays down, give a command that he has done wrong.....I use phewy. Lift him back into the sitting position by pulling up on the lead. Recommand, sit, and praise. Repeat as long as neccessary. Be sure to use a release command once he has completed the exercise. ............................. For the retrieveing, can you please detail a normal trip out. ex. distance of retrieve, are they all formal with him sitting, any freebies he is allowed to just chase the retrieve, how many in a session, etc. NTTF

new to the flock
Ratus, Sorry but it has been very busy here the last couple of days. What I would do with your dog at this point....and the reason I would do this is because he is board of formal retrieves IMO.....is get a couple of tennis balls and just take him out and Play fetch with him. No sits no waiting just fun. I would do this for 2 weeks to build his desire back up and then I would start doing formals again with a bumper , but i would mix freebies in with it . Be sure to give the freebies a command...I use freebie....and throw one every 4 or 5 retrives. As for the distractions around others, part is from boardom , and part as he is not focused ...try moving backwards at a jog while he is coming in. This will cause him to drive towards you and to focus more on you. NTTF
