Being the last day of the year with a good wind in spite of the Shining Moon I thought I'd do a flight.

Finding a empty car park did nothing to lift my hopes of success oh well at least my two Lab's would get a good walk. Having got on to the Marsh I loaded my gun just in case a Duck offered me a chance halfway to my chosen spot letting the Dog's stretch their leg's due to having the Marsh to ourselves day dreaming of past failures and success I stopped was it nope get your head in the moment I took a step again I stopped I was right first time a Chunter in front which sound happened again kneeling down two Black lab's by my side my eyes picked up five dark shape's feet high fighting the wind taking the first in front like a large driven Grouse it folded to shot the remaining four lifted slightly but keep coming as my second shot folded another Pink I gave a yeeees taking a Pink from each Lab I carried on to my spot.

Very few Geese came off was it due to the Moon or had they left !!!! Sleeving my gun I made the walk back to my vehicle again letting the two mud covered Dog's stretch their leg's I saw the younger Lab stop and stare before I could say get on he started to stalk like a Cat then bolt forward at three Brent Geese jumped amazingly he jumped to and grabbed a Goose in flight gobsmacked I called him back checking the Goose over I sat the two Lab's lifted the Goose pushed it forward which it took flight Kronking and Croaking out to sea turn then land with several others. If only dogs could talk as the look my young Lab gave me when I let his prize go was a picture.

When I was younger and decoyed Geese I've had my past dog catch a Pink in the half light coming into Decoys but never in broad daylight on the Marsh.

Happy New Year to you All. What will 02.1.2016 hopefully a Pink or two for Conor and myself
