Hunter
hi gang i have just noticed my barrels are very scratched inside i have always used a little wire brush to clean the **** out then a soft cloth to apply oil but now i have noticed its getting worse i have stopped using the brush will these marks ever go or fade or is that it now shagged for ever Interesting.. if the scratches are very small, I wouldnt worry.. but if the barrel does not have, what looks like shiny rings going down the barrel, then somethings up. If it bothers you too much, you could always run a rag with a slight bit of polish (fine) to tidy it. What barrel is it? cheap barrels may very well be a poorer quality of steel, that is more prone to scratches and dents. A good chrome lined barrel will however be more resistant. EDIT: You can also have your barrel chrome lined, but I think its expensive.

muckybear
Its probably just **** in the forcing cones which is hard to get out fully and can look like scratches, its just wad residue. Its very hard to scratch a barrel with a phosphor broze brush. thanks gang not so worried about it now
mry716
More and more people are finding barrel damage 1-2" in front of cones due to steel shot. Even some of the coated lead will scratch barrels but with no real detrimental effect so there is no need for undue concern. Keep them clean. Country_est
Have noticed something simmilar but was defo residue and instead of just cloth & / or wire brush I bought some spray in gun cleaner "cant rember what " but its specific to residue and when sprayed in left for 5 mins then scrubbed with the phosphor broze brush they come off. Do this once every 3 -6 months, but clean the barells with a pull thru every time. Trev
Hunter
A pull through just polishes the dirt onto the rest of the barrel. To really clean the barrel, you need some mild bore solvent, and a good scrub with a bronze brush, then push a tightly rolled, roughly 1" long wad of kitchen roll down the barrel. Do several runs with kitchen roll like this, you should get a squeaky noise when doing so. You will be amazed at the clean finish of the barrel. That, and theres a reduced risk of barrel pitting. If you really care for your barrel, a run down the barrel with a soft mop of gun oil will protect the bore while in storage. Even my £30 old double barrel gets this after any use Yep I probably have to much spare time in the evenings
Guest
I always use kitchen towel when i clean my 12 - run the brush down a few times first then the towel, you can see the **** coming out and you can tell quite easily when it's clean - then stick a bit of gun oil or WD40 down after in case of any moisture when stored. invector
Kitchen towel?? I use good old bog roll. Three sheets on one type and only two on another. The Aldi bog rolls have longer sheets and I only have to use two. Pull 'em off the roll, fold four times, push them on to a plastic split jag and Bob's your aunt's husband. Kitchen towel??
