Tomo-1
Hi all, I am gearing myself up for some decoying after a long break. I have been into the loft and found a grand total of ten shell and four full bodied decoys. I have hide nets etc. What's the minimum amount of decoys a serious pigeon shooter should have? The last time I was decoying I used to get movement into the pattern by using the Archie Coates method of lobbing a pigeon in the air! Things have moved on a bit since then. Given the choice of a magnet or a flapper, what would you say you can't live without? I will get one or the other, not sure which yet. Thanks. Exudate
Your total of 14 shell / full bodied decoys should do just fine for most situations. As for a magnet or flapper, some will tell you that a flapper is best, some magnet. It's all down to personal experience. I shot for 2 years without a magnet, just FUD decoys, and had decent results. In fact, my personal record of 102 pigeons was done without a magnet, just FUDS. No doubt that a magnet can help given the right circumstances, though. I use one now, an A1 decoys model that takes dead birds, height adjustable for when the crop starts to get higher. I always start off with the magnet, but I'm not afraid to bring it in if it appears to be spooking the birds. Never used a flapper, but there are guys on here who swear by them. At the end of the day, whatever you use, if you're in the right spot where the birds are feeding and they're in the mood to decoy, you'll have a good day regardless. dougall
rotary. add ead birds as soon as can on cradles or with kebab sticks(when crop not too tall). on good days decoys alone fine, most though you want movement and rotary brings more from further. atb
Bluebarrels
If I had to pick one or the other I would always go with the flapper BB
