Grandalf
A long established shoot which does not keep changing its members must be doing something right. I would go with them. I have run the same shoot for 24 years and I judge my success by the length of time the guys stay with me. Glad to say that we are very stable in that department. fenboy
Google Earth tells me quite a lot about a shoot and I always use it to see what terrain we will be shooting over. Flat ground is a definite no no. Emails are essential. My terms of attending include no overages and that should be made clear to the shoot organiser in advance. Some guns get carried away and the bag can be achieved by lunch time if guns are not circumspect. On the whole I have been disappointed with the shoots I have attended as a single gun. The exceptions include a day in the Scottish Borders three years ago when I saw pheasants and partridges which were in range but difficult, and the PW Rovers day at Burnt Norton in January which was fun. As for PW Rovers days next season I imagine that Burnt Norton and a day here in the Lincolnshire Wolds will be all that I get involved with. I can sort other days out local to here next January if the demand is there. I hope your going to organise some days in the wolds , I brought a new gun just for the occasion ! escortmagnum999
I was involved in a syndicate for only 1 season because nobody got on and the crack and banter was non existent. For me the most important part of shooting, especially game shooting is the ability to enjoy your day even if the shooting is pants. Comradery and banter are my priorities but each to there own!! Grandalf
A shoot should be 60% social and 40% shooting. Got to get the right mix of people. That includes guns, brushers, pickers-up and the keeper and shoot captain. Got to all gel or it wont work.
