16 Gauge / 67.5mm / Vectan Load Data?

Recommended Posts

Hello chaps.

I've got a Vectan A1 load for my 16 gauge worked up in a 70mm PT case. I've talked about it here before, but to summarise: it uses data for a 32g load but has a bit more wad and a bit less shot (1oz = 28.3 grams) in the case which keeps it nicely under the pressure limits whilst still being usable. It kills pigeons at all reasonable ranges and occasionally at unreasonable ranges too when I'm feeling confident. It patterns very well, so I've no reason to change from it or try anything new.

However, I have a stock (c. 200) of old Gamebore hulls which are a nominal 67.5mm in length and I'd like to use them, not least because the 70mm cases are already looking a bit tired with the amount of use they've had recently.

I believe I could probably use the same recipe with a shorter wad in the shorter cases and I'll "default" to doing this, but I wondered if anyone had any recipes with associated pressure / velocity data that they could suggest for these cases?

I don't mind trying something new if there's a justification for it and I have acquired an old hand-operated RTO tool from a chap on here recently, so perhaps if anyone's got a recipe using an RTO closure I could try that?

I have in stock a few kilos of #5's and #6's and supplies of A1 and A0. The gun is choked half and full (but so far shoots everything I've used with it full and "a bit more full"), so perhaps a heavier load of #5's might be the way to go? I'd try a lighter load of smaller shot, but I'm not sure it would give me anything that 28g of #6 doesn't already do.

All suggestions / data are welcome.

Many thanks,

Adam.

if you change the length, you can seriously change the pressures.

going shorter would raise pressures.

seek dedicated recipe.

Noted, thank you. I continue to do so. Unfortunately, most of what I can find is for 32g in a 67.5mm case, which doesn't really seem worthwhile as I also own a 12 gauge and already shoot that load with it.

Thing to do in that case is to generate the load of your dreams via the Proof House. It isn't that expensive and is very interesting to do.

Yep best way to screen a load 4 tests x 5 shells per test. You will get somewhere.
