Fuji Shooter
Nikon D3200 with something like a Tamron 18/300mm lens. Not a super quick lens but will cover all the bases and image quality is pretty good. With a range that great don't expect it to be sharp at either end. Glenlivet
The reviews actually aren't bad, it came out top of the super zooms. Not as sharp as an f2.8 24-70 but I doubt from the op's post that his wife is going to be pixel peeping on ACR. With an effective full frame range of 27-450 it should be good for most things from taking pictures of the kids and to holiday pics to some wildlife photography, without having to swap lenses. The D3200 has a useful guide mode, and allows for some more hands on control. Be aware that the Tamron 70-300 which is part of the Canon kit is more than likely without vibration reduction/optical stabilisation. Holding a 300mm lens steady at anything less than 1/1000 second exposure will be "challenging"! Edited April 5, 2016 by Glenlivet
Ollieollie
Hi All, sorry for the delay, all sorted now, ended up with a canon eos kit, she is snapping away like a goodun and has enrolled on a local photography course to shake any bad habits she may have taught herself. Thanks for all your advice and thanks poontang for the kind offer! Cheers
