mike69
Right first is there any law saying you can't make your own moderator Second I've just finished making it there is something that's not right just fired it and it's making a cracking sound I have four 5mm neoprene washers inside and some felt I got from work oh and it's 2inches longer than my whisper 180 any advice would be helpful Thanks
Marki
Nothing wrong with making your own moderator for an air rifle. From what you've posted it sound like the air has nowhere to go. I've been looking at 3d printing one so have seem a few different models recently! I've heard of people using those springy type of hair rollers inside the tube for DIY silencers. This picture isn't what I was looking for but you'll get an idea of the spacing needed.

Marki
Is your gun threaded? I've got a fat silencer that you can have.
FalconFN
It's hard to say without knowing what you have made but just to narrow down the possible causes: 1. Is the crack audible with and without a pellet? - pellet clipping? 2. How big is the center hole? - too big? 3. Can the washers move/vibrate inside? washers vibrating/hitting the inner wall? 4. Have you tried changing the chamber size (3,4,5 chambers)? Not enough room for the air to expand into?
mike69
New one at the top Picture won't post Mark the barrel is not threaded
mike69
Falcon the cracking is with the pellet washer can't move they are a tight fit and made out of rubber I made them in work today and I've tried adding and removing chambers with no luck Mark I'll send you the pic
FalconFN
Sorry if this sounds too obvious, but if the cracking sound is only when firing a pellet then it's likely that the pellets are clipping one of the washers, the fleece or the end of the silencer. Have you tested the accuracy?

Yea the centre hole is the size of a hair roller so yea it's to big so is that a possible problem
