duster
I had a similar problem with my HW95. Original spring broke, I replaced this with a John Knibbs spring. Looked like a standard spring to me, when fitted it produced around the 18ft.lb mark. Took the gun to local RFD, who de-tuned it back to 12ft.lb. According to the RFD this is a common problem on HW's, but it was certainly the first I'd heard until now. At least your friend had the sense to change it - a few folks I know would have been overjoyed with the thoughts of an illegal FAC rated rifle  Duster
