after a few opinions, having read the topic above on restoring a gun stock etc, i fancy giving it a go. have got the confidence to do it no problem my only concern is using the correct oil to finish the gun,

A - Teak Oil

B - Linseed Oil

C - Any other.. (GUN STOCK OIL ETC)

any suggestions on what you may have used or prefer or found that it was not as good as you thought etc.

Cheers John

I used Birchwood Casey "Tru-Oil"

Needs quite a few coats (about 8 - 10) over the course of a week, but the finish is very good if you follow the instructions.

Quite a glossy finish - but Stock Sheen and Conditioner can be lightly rubbed in with fine steel wool after the last coat to give a nice satin finish.

I'm really pleased with the results, and it's dead easy to use.

Have to agree with HD, I've just renovated a Winchester 74, 22lr, looks brand new now, done the blueing aswell.

Someone posted a traditional oil recipe for treating gun stocks a while back. It contained boiled linseed oil and tung oil. Approx 80 - 20 mix. I used it on a stock with excellent results.

Don't use raw linseed oil, Danish oil or Teak Oil as these go sticky or don't harden well.
